GEORGIA’S FAMILY PLANNING SYSTEM AWARDED $8.3 MILLION TO

Atlanta, Georgia, April 01, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — With over 40% of Title X customers in Georgia uninsured and over 66% living below the federal poverty level ($26,500 for a family four people in 2021), the work of Georgia Family Planning Systems is much needed. The Georgia Family Planning System (GFPS) (www.georgiafamilyplanning.org) operates under the administrative direction of the Family Health Centers of Georgia, Inc. (www.fhcga.org). GFPS became the Office of Population Affairs (www.opa.hhs.gov) Title X recipient for Georgia in 2014. Since 2014, the network has increased the number of women, men, and women by 39 percent adolescents who accessed family planning in Georgia.

On March 31, the Bureau of Population Affairs announced a total of $256.6 million to expand and restore access to equitable and affordable Title X family planning services nationwide. GFPS received $8.3 million in funding as the sole recipient of Title X in Georgia. “We began this work in 2014 to integrate access to affordable, quality primary health care and family planning services across the state,” said Dr. Michael W. Brooks continued, “This funding enables our state partners, operating more than 175 sites across the state, to continue to ensure that we improve health outcomes for women, men and adolescents who need access care, regardless of their health insurance status or ability to pay.

In 2021, a total of 160,632 patients accessed additional family planning and healthcare services through the network. Most GFPS partners are Federal Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) or other nonprofit health organizations:
