The McAllen Public Library will be hosting a Community Family Health Fair on Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Main Library on 23rd Nolana Street and Avenue. Attendees are encouraged to “Get on Track with your Health” by taking advantage of free health screenings and visiting numerous information stations. Families can enjoy free mini-trains, jump rope and hoola hoop contests, a bubble-dancing marathon, and many more fun fitness activities for the whole family. The Health Fair will take place inside the library lobby and outside in front of the library.
“The first annual health fair is an opportunity for residents to receive free health checkups and interact with local health and wellness providers,” said Library Director Kate Horan. “Together with our community health partners, the McAllen Public Library raises awareness of the many local, free and inexpensive health resources available to everyone. We want to encourage all individuals, but especially people with disabilities, over the age of 65, veterans or uninsured, to learn more about where to seek health services in the Valley.
Dr. Martin Ekoumou, MD and students from UTRGV-UT Health Rio Grande Valley will be on hand to provide free health screenings, such as blood pressure checks, BMI tests, diabetes tests and of cholesterol.
Agencies such as Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, Hammond Vision Center, McAllen VA Outpatient Clinic, Rio Grande Valley Diabetes Association, Endeavors, South Texas Health System, Power of Why Studio, Vitalant, McAllen Metro and many more will share information about their services with our communities.
