Residents of New Kensington and surrounding communities now have access to a state-of-the-art facility made possible in large part by the Sainte-Marguerite Foundation and its donors.
Leaders from the Foundation, the hospital and the community recently gathered to celebrate the inauguration of the UPMC St. Margaret New Kensington Family Health Centerwho started seeing patients in early May.
“The St. Margaret’s Foundation’s philanthropic partners filled the gap with hope and promised to make the dream of a new community health center a reality,” said Mary Lee Gannon, President of the St. Margaret’s Foundation. “We are grateful for this collaboration and for giving this beautiful facility to the people of New Kensington.”
Services available at the new $4.3 million facility include primary care, obstetrics, pediatrics, opioid use disorder intervention, psychiatry, social work and health behavioral.

- Family lounge, with “Kids Corner”
- 12 private examination rooms
- Behavioral health rooms
- On-site laboratory
- Outdoor courtyard, with seating and fresh greenery
- Multipurpose room for community use
the Richard King Mellon Foundation and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania were the facility’s largest donors. the Staunton Farm Foundation funded Sunshine Space, a multi-purpose room for community meetings, health education events, classes for medical students and more.
Dr. Jonathan Han, program director of the UPMC St. Margaret Family Medicine Residency Programhas been practicing in the New Kensington area for 20 years and “couldn’t be more excited” about the new facility.
“Twenty years ago, we hung a mission statement at our hospital that promised that we would ensure our patients had access to all levels of the health care system, that we were committed to the medically underserved, and that we would take care of everyone.” Han said. “I am so honored that we have been faithful stewards of this mission and move forward into the next 20 years.”
Dave Patton, President of UPMC Sainte-Margueritedescribes the years of work required to create the establishment, as well as the quality of care that can be expected.
“Caregivers in this building provide their patients with world-class healthcare. It is truly a blessing to be here in New Kensington,” Patton said. “It gives me chills to think about what this facility means to the town of New Kensington and our partnership here.”
