TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A new family planning program with the Shawnee Co. Department of Health is ready to open.
The Ministry of Health on Wednesday held an official ceremony to launch its family planning program. It is said to provide services such as preventing and achieving pregnancy.
The program will discuss the client’s reproductive plan and effective family planning methods, as well as Title X (10) pregnancy testing and counseling. The Department of Health explained that the range of family planning services does not include abortion as a method of family planning.
According to Manya Schmidt, nurse practitioner, the service fee will be adjusted based on family income.
“Our services are federally funded through Title X(10), and they’re offered on a sliding scale basis, so fees will be adjusted based on family income,” Schmidt said.
The hope is that the program provides more care to people who need it.
“We hope this will open up and make our services accessible to a much wider range of people who might not otherwise benefit from the services,” Schmidt said.
According to Schmidt, the creation of this program came from a community needs survey that revealed gaps in health services.
