COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new healthcare facility is set to open in the Poconos.
Located off Memorial Boulevard in Tobyhanna, you will find the center of the mountain. A building that offers several resources committed to meeting the needs of families and children. Its newest addition brings a medical facility into the mix.
St. Luke’s Family Medicine, Tobyhanna, is open to the public and officials have told me that there is a need for health care in the area and this facility is now filling it.
“I have been in this community for 22 years and raised my children there. It’s such an important service that we’ve been missing for some time,” said Vera Filipovska, Family Nurse Practitioner, St. Luke’s University Health.
Folipovska will be the nurse practitioner at the facility, where she also lives next door. The president of St. Luke’s Monroe campus says it was a perfect coincidence.
“Completely by accident, did we find someone who literally lives across the street who works for us, and who is really excited to be here and serve the community in which she lives,” said said Don Seiple, president of St. Luke’s Monroe Campus.
She and officials at the mountain center say the search for health resources prevents many people in the area from seeking treatment.
“We also have a disadvantaged and underserved community because not only are they unable to access their services for transportation reasons or for whatever reason, but we are getting closer to them,” Filipovska explained.
“I know that once the doors open to the public, we’re going to see foot traffic here like never before,” said Kristi Hammond, executive director, Pocono Services for Families & Children.
The new St. Luke’s Family Practice Center in Tobyhanna will open to the public on Monday.
