Over 400 families attended the inaugural Aldine ISD Family Health Show on Saturday, March 26 at the MB Sonny Donaldson Child Nutrition Center.
Families enjoyed free health screenings, COVID shots, flu shots, live demonstrations, meetings with health experts, and activities. The first 300 families received gift bags filled with treats and had the chance to win door prize draws throughout the event. One of the biggest draws for young children was taking a photo with Mirabel Madrigal from Disney’s Encanto. The District Child Nutrition Services Department also provided smoothie samples and consultations regarding heart disease and cancer prevention.
The Department of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) coordinated the fair, seeking to attract as many community members as possible. Health experts who participated and educated the community at the event included MD Anderson, Texas Children’s, Hope Clinic, UHP Health, Molina HealthCare, DePelchin, Spring Branch Health Center, Mi Familia Dental, Harris County Public Health Services and Legacy Community Health.
The Aldine ISD Health Fair was a free event for employees, students, their families and community members to connect them to resources for living healthier lifestyles.
“It was wonderful to see so many families at the fair on Saturday morning,” said Dr. Martha Escalante, Executive Director of FACE’s Aldine ISD. “Aldine ISD is very concerned about the well-being of our students and our employees. The fair really helped us show what we are doing to help promote health in the district and the community. We’ve had so many families, vendors, and community partners asking if we’re going to do it again next year. The answer is yes. We are already preparing for next year’s event. Again, we are grateful to everyone who helped coordinate and promote the fair. And we are grateful to our community and our families who took this opportunity to focus on health.
